Runsewe renders his stewardship of NTDC

In furtherance of his slogan 'practical tourism' when he assumed office, Segun Runsewe, the director general of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), government apex tourism agency has outlined his achievement and set out a new target for himself as he celebrates one year in office.
Rendering the account of his stewardship recently in Abuja, the amiable journalist turned tourism administrator listed his achievement which includes; establishment of Care Centre that has taken off in Abuja local and international wings of Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja. These centres provide free travel information for all categories of travellers free of charge, encouragement of environmental culture by providing dust bins and mobile toilets to all motor parks as well as promising to build international motor parks in the six geo-political zone across the country and the Federal Capital Territory.
Others include signage erected in strategic locations in Abuja, introduction of emergency calls centre for distress travellers, branding of Abuja Metro Buses as a way of showing in picture Nigeria's major tourist attractions to the general public.
Apart from the aforementioned, the NTDC has also concluded the production of a comprehensive Abuja Map and that of the entire country, some of which will be erected throughout the city, building a fish village at Argungu in Kebbi State and there is also plan to build a yam house in Anambra State, where yam festivities is revered.
He also promised to build on the achievements of the country's participation at international travel fairs; such as the World Travel Market (WTM) London, FITUR in Madrid, Spain and the prestigious ITB-Berlin in Germany.
Not left out in the NTDC self challenge project are the work force. The corporation now has a functional Health Centre within its premises, while efforts are being made to provide IT equipments to all its zonal offices to enhance their operations and now have a robust and cordial relationship with tourism stakeholders according to the NTDC boss.
Also recently concluded are, a new NTDC premises wearing a new look. Doted with beautiful erected boards of major tourist attractions and activities, depicting as a real tourist friendly environment, what many said was a contrast from the past. The newly decorated premises have shops when fully completed and would serve as a research centre.
Runsewe also hinted that the NTDC has concluded arrangement with AA, UK, an international rating company to help in the coming grading and classification of hotels across the country and that it would soon be compulsory for all hotels in the country to install CCTV to enhance security of their guests and staff.
The highlight of the briefing was the tour of the new look NTDC premises and the other facilities such as an African restaurant among others.t.
